Blending liquids with grains

The production of wet granular media is a crucial step in many industrial processes. Nevertheless, the mixing procedure has not received much investigation as an academic topic. We study this problem by the means of experimental model systems, taking advantage of the rotating drum geometry.

In order to identify the multiple mixing mechanisms, we carry out experiments with different initial liquid distributions. The evolution of the system is recorded, then using image treatment, we can extract the relevant data.
